The Power Of Touch
The benefits of human touch have been utilized since the dawn of mankind. Being touched is a basic human need. It is as important to human survival as air, light, water and food. It is rooted in the belief that energy flows freely between human beings, making physical contact with others fulfil the fundamental desire to be connected.
Sensory stimulation through human touch is the first form of communication we receive.
As Margaret Atwood wrote in her book "The Blind Assassin"; 'Touch comes before sight, before speech. It's the first language and the last and it always tell the truth'
It is therefore no wonder that touch is vital to emotional, physical and psychological health and well being.
To touch satisfies a basic human need in all of us and sends a message of healing, care, understanding, support, love and communication. To touch increases our awareness of our own resources and the needs of others.
